Regina Blumears is the Chief Executive Officer, owns 50% of the shares in BB Comics (Pty) Ltd, is a co-founder of the business and has a wealth of management and sales experience and is currently employed as a Key Account Manager.

She is the strategic thrust behind BB Comics (Pty) Ltd, having established the partnership with Comic Con Africa, assessing and determining advertising clients and liaising with these in order to attract their business.

Regina helped focus her spouse, partner, co-shareholder and co-founder - Gushwell F. Brooks' - passion and hobby into a business!

Gushwell F. Brooks (CCO)

Gushwell F, Brooks is the Chief Creative Officer, owns 50% of the shares in BB Comics (Pty) Ltd, is a co-founder of the business and has been dabbling with comics and graphic novels for more than 20 years and finally in October 2014, took the leap of faith and presented his creation “The Adventures of Ntate Molefe” to the most widely read publication in South Africa, “The Daily Sun”.

On the 2nd May 2017, he resumed the series, this time as a fortnightly comic strip series and a year later the cartoon strip still proves to be popular and a hit with its reading audience.

He is the creative driving force behind the business, as he has created the two characters and comic books being “The Adventures of Ntate Molefe” as well as the “The Saga of Sergeant South Africa” and other future titles. He thus lays out, writes and finalises the comics as well as each narrative told in each issue.

As a Team:

The founders of BB Comics (Pty) Ltd are passionate about social justice, both on a personal level as well as on a professional level. Gushwell F. Brooks has worked in the field of social justice for years, is currently employed by the South African Human Rights Commission and has previously worked for civil society organisations, wrote in his personal capacity as a columnist for The Daily Maverick and presents radio shows for Primedia’s Radio 702 and Cape Talk. Both founders of BB Comics (Pty) Ltd have a keen interest in education, literacy, gender equity, migration and poverty alleviation.

This passion is what informed the creation of the character and the comic series “Ntate Molefe”, but it also led to a realisation that literacy and a culture of reading needs to be fostered and cultivated. Each comic strip’s unique story line, incorporates current affairs as well as people’s struggles within their communities and more specifically within the context they live within.

Joseph Moloi (Joe Mo) ~ Artist “Saga of Sergeant South Africa”:

Joe Mo was a petrol attendant and freelance artist. Gushwell F. Brooks discovered this artist through a cartoonist and comic artist social media forum, reached out to him and contracted him to illustrate “The Saga of Sergeant South Africa”. Despite having a very contrasting artistic style to Oscar, his style is a perfect fit for the title he illustrates.

Oscar Mashiane ~ Artist “The Adventures of Ntate Molefe”:

Oscar Mashiane was an unemployed 25 year old youth, resident in Limpopo Province, Gamaraba Village. He took the initiative and reached out to Gushwell F. Brooks via email and sent him his own interpretation of “The Adventures of Ntate Molefe”. Inspired by world renowned comic book artist, Allan Moore, his art is extremely detailed and the account of him reaching out to Gushwell is extremely inspirational.
