About the Creator of Ntate Molefe

Gushwell F. Brooks

I have been creating my own comics since about the age of 12 or 13 years old. Eventually in October and November 2014, The Daily Sun, South Africa's most widely distributed and read newspaper, gave my private doodles a platform when it published 5 issues of The Adventures of Ntate Molefe.

Ntate Molefe is back in his all new adventures and I have many more ideas with this character and many others I have developed over some years. We will get back to that a little later.

I initially introduced Ntate Molefe as a side-character through another comic, The Lynx. He was supposed to be comic relief, but then my wife saw the value of the character and encouraged me to create a story around Ntate Molefe. As they would say, the rest is history.

I firmly believe that it is time that we tell our own stories as South Africans through the comic medium and find innovative ways of rewarding artists and writers, whilst getting content to readers.

Apart from spending late nights chronicling The Adventures of Ntate Molefe, I am a father of three amazing children - two boys and one girl -, an LLB graduate and I am a little better known for my late night radio shows on 702, my grown up writing for The Daily Maverick and the work I do in human rights.
